If you want to redecorate your home or add to your room’s interior, you might be wondering if all door knobs and handles inside your home need to match. Even though homeowners have different thoughts on this, they all agree that your doors should be consistent with the overall style and decor of the room. And just like any other aspect of interior decor, it’s important to look for a solution that’s both practical and cost-efficient. We’ve listed a few factors that you should consider when choosing the hardware for doors.

HOW TO CHOOSE DOOR KNOBS?

Consistency across your home

If you enter your home just to notice that every room looks so different, your home needs a little remodeling. All rooms in your home should look put together and have a common thread throughout the house, even if each has its own color scheme. In other words, there shouldn’t be a room in your home with a countryside theme and another with a Victorian theme.

And when it comes to matching door knobs in your home, this is often taken very seriously and people tend to buy exactly the same door knobs. You can be as creative as you want and if you have more than one level, the door knobs upstairs shouldn’t need to be the same as downstairs.

Split finish

You can opt for a split finish because it caters to most of your needs. Firstly, most handles and knobs in your home will match, but the door knobs will have a different finish inside your rooms than that of the outside.

Of course, it will be of the same design with two different colors, one for outside of the room and the other for inside the room, to add a personalized touch. The door handle will look like the rest of your home when you approach your room from the outside, and the color of the interior handle will blend with the overall style of your room when you close the door. So, you don’t have to worry about door knobs messing with the rest of your home.

Blending

If you don’t want to match knobs, blending is another option. You can search for different styles that will complement your home’s theme. For example, stainless steel, nickel, and chrome handles and door knobs make an ideal choice for a modern home. If your home has a more rustic and traditional style, you can look for handles made from wrought iron or antique brass. This way, the knobs will not only match each room but also the overall decor of your home.

WHICH CHOICE IS RIGHT FOR YOUR HOUSE?

With different factors at play, the main consideration is home style and personal preference. Consistency is the ideal choice if you prefer decorating your home in a traditional way. Years ago, people preferred using the same door knobs throughout their homes even if it didn’t make sense. Although they knew that the shower area and bathroom need more durable handles that can withstand higher humidity levels, they didn’t know how to mix and match different knobs.

If you want to get perfectly balanced decor without sacrificing practicality, the ideal option for you is a split finish. You just need to make sure that you choose the same model for the exterior and interior of the door. The main reason is that different knobs come in different sizes, and they won’t line up if you choose different models.

FINAL THOUGHTS

The most common question among homeowners during remodeling projects is if the door knobs and handles should match across the house. But there isn’t any definitive answer to this question. While handles shouldn’t exactly match, there are different ways to ensure that you don’t end up with a disjointed home style if you decide to mix and match. You should also consider how much money you want to spend, overall home decor, and the style of different rooms to make an ideal choice.
