Epoxy Feet

I often make projects with plywood, and three boats later, I know to always seal every seam — especially the edges and cut sides — in epoxy, to prevent water from migrating into the plies and causing premature failure (or leaks). This principle applies to outdoor furniture. The end grain on table and chair legs wicks up moisture, which leads to decay.

Consequently, I always seal the feet on any deck furniture with a good grade of epoxy, to prevent the feet from rotting. As you can see in the photos, I wrap the legs with tape to create a shallow reservoir. Brush in a thick mix of epoxy. Allow it to cure before removing the tape and sanding the epoxy flush. -Cliff Moore, Jacksonville, North Carlina
