Miter Gauge Sled
![]() |
Sleds are great at the table saw, whether it’s for small parts or precise crosscuts. However, they do require a pair of miter bars to be installed on the bottom at exactly 90°. These bars aren’t terribly expensive, and installing them isn’t too hard (but it can be tedious). To save myself the money and the headache, I opt for using miter gauges instead.
For this purpose, any old pair of miter gauges will do. Set both to 90°, then place them in the miter slots on your table saw. Position your sled and screw it in place. This provides a free set of miter bars, and makes attaching them accurately a snap. If you need to switch to a different sled, all you need to do is unscrew them from one and screw them onto another. Plus, I now have a convenient pair of handholds for pushing the sled.
