Small Parts Tray

By: Woodsmith staff
Each of my tools in the shop have accessories that I use all the time. Here's a simple way to keep those parts close at hand.

It’s nice to have a place to hold small parts and accessories at different tools around my shop. I came up with the idea you see here to make small trays that attach to my woodworking machines using magnets.

The tray and the back are glued together and have rare-earth magnets installed in them. The next slides show you how to make these pieces.

To make the job easier, I designed an easy way to make eight tray bottoms at one time. I used a simple template to rout the tray recess with a bearing-guided bowl and tray bit on an oversize blank.

With the trays done, all that’s left is to cut the backs for each tray, glue them together, and then add the rare-earth magnets.
