Router Table Fence Storage: Easy DIY Plywood Rack

By: Phil Huber
Need a convenient place to store your router table fence when it's not in use? Two simple plywood brackets create a sturdy storage rack that keeps the fence off your workbench and within easy reach.

Easy Router Table Fence Storage with Shop-Made Brackets

Most of the time, the fence on my router table stays in place. But occasionally, a routing operation calls for removing it to provide more room to work.

The problem is finding a convenient place to put the fence once it's off the table.

Leaving it on the workbench takes up valuable space, and leaning it against the router table isn't a great solution either. It's easy to knock over, and the fence can get damaged in the process.

To solve the problem, I added a simple router table fence storage rack made from two plywood brackets.

The brackets mount directly to the router table legs, creating a convenient place to store the fence whenever it's not needed.

Make the Router Table Fence Storage Brackets

The rack consists of two plywood brackets cut to fit the router table.

The size and shape of the brackets depend on the width of your router table legs and the dimensions of your fence.

Start by measuring the fence to determine how much support it needs. Then cut the brackets from plywood, allowing enough clearance for the fence to slide into place and lift out easily.

The goal is to create a secure resting place that supports the fence without interfering with normal router table operations.

Attach the Brackets to the Router Table

Once the brackets are cut, attach them to the router table legs.

I secured each bracket with four wood screws.

Position the brackets so they support the fence evenly and keep it from tipping or sliding off.

Before fastening them permanently, hold the fence in place to check the fit and make sure it won't interfere with the router table, power switch, or other accessories.

Then secure the brackets to the legs.

Keep Your Router Table Fence Close at Hand

This simple storage rack makes removing the router table fence much more convenient.

Instead of setting the fence on the workbench or leaning it against the table, I can place it directly into the brackets.

The fence stays protected, the workbench remains clear, and everything is right where I need it when it's time to reinstall the fence.

It's a quick, inexpensive shop upgrade that makes the router table a little easier to use.

Build a More Versatile Router Table

A convenient fence storage rack is just one way to improve your router table setup. From better workpiece support to practical storage and adjustable fences, the right accessories can make routing easier and more accurate.
