REBEL POCKET HOLE JOINER
When I think of Kreg, I think of pocket holes first and foremost. They have a variety of available jigs, but one product they’ve recently released is one of the most interesting pocket hole tools I’ve come across.
The Rebel Pocket Hole Joiner is Kreg’s all-in-one, battery-powered pocket hole maker. The “drill” is located in the carriage, which is moved by a lever. To use, set the depth of the workpiece on the carriage and the front of the joiner, then align the edge guide. A button on the lever starts the motor and pushing the lever drills the hole. The dust collects in a detachable box, which features a vacuum hose port as well.

| Folding the lever down and pushing the release switch frees the motor to access the bit. | Pressing the gray button on the lever handle starts the motor and pushing the lever forward moves the carriage. Sawdust collects in a box, though a vacuum hose can be attached as well. | The narrow rail guide prevents thin workpieces from moving side-to-side. The retractable back legs support the rear of the joiner during the cut. |
PERFORMANCE.
This joiner offers a quick setup for pocket hole joinery, and it’s an easy to use tool once you get used to the movement. That said, for many woodworkers it may be overkill. If pocket holes aren’t a primary tool in your arsenal, then you may be better off with a smaller pocket hole jig. However, if this joiner does pique your interest, it may be worth the investment.
