Build a Modular Benchtop Tool Organizer
It's easy for a workbench to become cluttered with screwdrivers, measuring tools, driver bits, and other small accessories. And when everything ends up scattered across the benchtop, finding the tool you need can interrupt your workflow.
This DIY benchtop tool organizer provides a simple solution. Built from pegboard, hardwood corner posts, and dowels, it keeps frequently used tools organized and close at hand without taking up much space.
Best of all, its modular design lets you rearrange the storage compartments to fit different tools.

Simple Pegboard Construction
The organizer starts with four maple corner posts. Each post has grooves that capture the edges of four pegboard panels, creating a sturdy, open-top caddy.
The real advantage of this design is its adjustable interior.
By inserting 1/4"-diameter dowels through matching holes in opposite pegboard sides, you can create individual compartments for screwdrivers, calipers, and other hand tools.
With pegboard holes spaced 1" on center, the dowels create openings approximately 3/4" wide.
Need room for a larger tool? Simply remove a row of dowels to make a wider compartment.
Magnetic Storage for Small Accessories
The outside of the caddy provides additional storage space.
A magnetic strip attached to one side keeps small metal accessories organized and easy to find.
It's especially useful for holding driver bits, small brushes with metal ferrules, jigsaw blades, and other items that tend to get lost in drawers.
