ShopNotes Podcast 124 — When Projects Go Sideways

By: Phil Huber
The projects we build sometimes need some help — during or after construction.

Repair, refinishing, flaws, blemishes ... these are all part of building projects out of wood. This episode is dedicated to finding ways to deal with issues that come up.

ShopNotes podcast 124

This bookcase is an example of things working well. Yeah, we're not sure why.

Repairing furniture

The "gallbladder cabinet" cabinet Phil made 13 years ago had a weak spot in the base. Repairs didn't hold. So he made a new one.

Here's a comparison to show how the feet of the base were strengthened while preserving the look.

Phil's recent bookcase is made from white fir that had distracting knots and wind shake.

Wood patch

Here's one of the patches he made. Not meant to be "invisible," just disguised.

The hosts also talked about Felder's dado blade. It features carbide inserts, is adjustable, pricey — and super cool looking.
