ShopNotes Podcast 111 — 465 Things to Go

By: Phil Huber
A rousing discussion on setting up and working in a shared space.

Logan is out of town this week, so John and Phil have a chance to talk more. John shares a cleanup challenge where each day during the month, he gets rid of one more item. Day 1: 1 thing. Day 2: 2 items ... you see where this is headed.

Listener Jerry asks: Good discussion on tools and shops, but I’m now setting up a group shop in a commercial rental. You’re working in your private shops and the group shop - and regularly sharing how you are working privately. I’d love to hear more on how to set up a group shop - where each member has their space and responsibilities - but the language for success is a “we”, where we’re looking out for each other (safety, productivity, tool knowledge, and creative output).

The guys talk about what it's like working the main shop at Woodsmith and the studio shop for the TV show and video productions. There are a lot of things to consider here.

This episode is brought to you by Shaper Tools, makers of Shaper Origin, the handheld CNC router that brings digital precision to the craft of woodworking. Tackle joinery, cabinetry, hardware installation and more with speed and precision. Try it risk-free in your shop for 30 days.
