If you use your router frequently in the workshop, you know how important it is to have a safe, convenient place to set it down—especially while the bit is still spinning. That’s why I built this DIY router storage stand. It not only keeps your tool secure but also organizes router bits and accessories in one compact space.
Easy-to-Build Base from Baltic Birch Plywood
To make this project simple and quick, I used ½" Baltic birch plywood for the main structure. The base and top panels are cut to size with rabbets around the edges for easy assembly. The top includes a U-shaped opening that fits around the router base, allowing it to rest safely without tipping.
Twin dadoes spaced evenly from each edge hold vertical dividers in place. The back, sides, and dividers are cut and glued up to form a sturdy box.
Built-In Bit Tray and Drawer for Router Accessories
This router stand includes two convenient storage areas: a router bit tray and an accessory drawer.
- Bit Tray: The tray is housed in a dado across the front and back panels. It's perfect for organizing frequently used bits within arm’s reach.
- Accessory Drawer: The drawer is built with rabbets for strength and fits snugly in the base. It’s ideal for storing wrenches, collets, and other small parts.
With this setup, everything you need for your router is neatly stored and easy to access right at your workbench.
This router storage stand is a fast and functional shop project that enhances both safety and efficiency. Whether you're a weekend woodworker or a full-time maker, organizing your router tools with a custom stand like this will save time and reduce clutter in your shop.
