Lathe Workstation
In my shop, an extra work surface is always a welcome addition. That’s no less true at the lathe, which is why I whipped up this auxiliary workstation.
The station is made of three plywood parts: a table, a runner, and a pair of turn buttons to lock it in place. The runner registers in the slot in the lathe bed, while the turn buttons fit through and can be flipped to secure the workstation in place. The pieces are held together by 1⁄4"-20 hardware, secured with knobs and carriage bolts, making it easy to loosen, adjust, and tighten down again.
The workstation is a great help when applying finish to a freshly-turned piece, or to set different tools on while turning. It can even be used as a base for jigs during more intricate lathe work. -Logan Wittmer Runnels, Iowa
