Routing Stopped Slots
Stopped slots are useful joinery, and they’re not hard to make. What can be tricky though is knowing exactly when to stop routing, especially if the slot is stopped on both ends. The workpiece often covers a stop mark on shorter router table fences — until you’ve already gone past it. To remedy that, I always mark an arrow before my stop line when routing these kinds of slots so I can watch my progress and be sure to stop exactly when the workpiece hits the stop mark.
