Hook Stop

Bench dog holes are often used with a vise to grip a workpiece. However, I use them more often for stops and supports. Here’s one that might work for you.

The stop anchors in two dog holes so that it won’t rotate while in use. You could make it longer, too.

It’s made from a length of 1⁄2" plywood and features a short hook on the end. The hook catches the end of a workpiece, while the side of the stop sup-ports the workpiece’s edge. As shown in the photos, this makes it ideal for securing small, narrow pieces near the front edge of my bench. I’ve also found it useful for holding parts while I cut slots with a biscuit joiner. For these I move the stop to a set of holes farther from the edge. -Nina Oslund, Cape Girardeau, Missouri
