V-Block Upgrades

Round and octagonal parts present challenges for work-holding. One solution is a simple V-block. I don’t do simple. || | ---------- | |DIY v block clamp setup holding large wooden dowel| |In addition to a V-block’s utility at the workbench, it also comes in handy to cradle a round workpiece (like the dowel above) at the drill press.|

I made a thick V-block from two layers of plywood. A kerf down the middle protects fragile corners. I added a hardboard stop on one end. This keeps the workpiece from sliding if I’m using a hand plane.

Then to support long parts, I cut off one end. I didn’t want to lose it, so I can connect them back together with dowels. One side is unglued. -Phil Huber Urbandale, Iowa diagram of how to assemble DIY v block workbench setup
