Shop-Made Bit Bearings.
Steve Johnson of Altoona, IA frequently uses the router table to cut joinery. Bits like the slot cutter shown above are invaluable, but he didn’t want to buy a separate bit for every possible depth of groove. Instead, he made a series of bearings out of scrap plywood that slip over the bit’s bearing. This allows him to custom-fit the depth of each groove without needing a catalog of different bits.
Corralling Cords & Hoses.
Eric Houghtaling of Carmel, IN always keeps his orbital sander plugged into his vacuum for when it’s time to sand a project. Of course, that meant he also needed a way to corral the cord and hose. To keep things from tangling, he wrapped the cord around the hose and held it with zip ties, cutting the ends off and filing down the nubs afterward.
Putty Parts
Carol Edwards of Westchester, PA was trying to juggle a handful of nails on a ladder when she had a better idea. She took a blob of putty and stuck it to the ladder top. Much like a pin cushion, the protruding nails are easy to grab when your hands are full.
