Slicing Plastic Tubing

By: Erich Lage
A safe way to protect your saw blade investments.

1 27 01 Using clear plastic tubing to protect the teeth of a table saw blade is a great idea. I found a simple solution to the dilemma of slicing one side of the tube straight and safely. All it takes is a couple of scrap pieces of MDF, a piece of double-sided tape, and a blade from a utility knife. The steps below show you where to start. I used a brad point bit that is just slightly bigger than the tube I was going to slice. 1 27 04 To create the opening for the tube, clamp two pieces of identically sized MDF to the drill press fence. 1 27 06 The blade is held in place with a piece of double-sided tape. Next join the halves and clamp them in your vise. 1 27 01 To start, push the tube through the opening without turning or twisting it. 1 27 08 Once clear, pull the remaining length through the block.
