Quick Insert Leveling

By: Woodsmith staff
Learn This Simple Trick for Leveling Table Saw Inserts

Leveling a shop-made insert plate on your table saw can be a time-consuming process. But I found a quick and easy way to tackle this chore using a hot-melt glue gun and some paste wax. I start by applying a coat of paste wax on the tabs that support the plate. After the glue is heated in the gun, squeeze a dab of glue onto each tab where they meet the insert.

Press the plate into the opening until it’s flush with the table. I use a straightedge, like the level shown here. The paste wax prevents the glue from sticking to the tabs. But it sticks to the insert plate to keep it level. In just a few seconds, I have a flush insert plate that I can use over and over.
