Folding sawhorses are a great addition to any woodworking shop. They're handy when you need an extra work surface or support for long boards, and they fold flat when the job is done. But even compact sawhorses need a convenient place to live when they're not in use.
I recently built a set of the Fold-Flat Sawhorses from WoodsmithPlans.com. They work great, but as part of an effort to clean up my shop, I wanted to find a way to keep them off the floor without sacrificing their easy accessibility.
My solution was this simple wall-mounted sawhorse holder. Made from plywood, a support cleat, and a few rare-earth magnets, it keeps both sawhorses neatly stored against the wall and ready to grab whenever I need them.
Build a Simple Plywood Sawhorse Holder
The holder starts with a plywood back panel shaped to match the profile of the folded sawhorses. This creates a compact mounting surface that fits neatly behind the pair.
To support the sawhorses, I attached a hanger cleat made from three layers of plywood. The cleat projects from the back panel and provides a place for the folded sawhorses to rest. Once the cleat was attached, I secured the assembly to the shop wall with fasteners driven through the plywood back.
Add Magnets to Keep the Sawhorses in Place
The plywood cleat supports the weight of the sawhorses, but I wanted a little extra holding power to prevent them from slipping off the holder. A few rare-earth magnets provided an easy solution.
I installed a magnet in the back panel and added matching magnets to the sawhorses. The first sawhorse has a magnet on each side, while the second has a magnet on its inside face. Together, the magnets help hold the folded sawhorses against the holder and one another.
The magnets aren't intended to carry the weight of the sawhorses—that's the job of the plywood cleat. They simply help keep everything in position while the sawhorses are stored.
Compact Storage That Keeps Sawhorses Within Reach
When I need a sawhorse, I simply lift it off the holder and unfold the legs. When the work is finished, the sawhorses fold flat and slip right back onto the cleat.
This quick shop organization project keeps my sawhorses out of the way without making them difficult to access. It's one more small improvement that helps me make better use of the available space in my shop.
