Build a Tilt-Out Hardware Organizer for Your Workshop

If you're like me, you probably have a collection of leftover screws, nuts, bolts, and other hardware from past woodworking projects. Rather than sorting through a bucket or drawer every time you need a fastener, here's a clever way to keep those small parts organized.

This DIY tilt-out hardware organizer uses recycled prescription bottles and a simple plywood frame to create compact, portable storage for your workshop.

The best part is that the bottles are easy to remove, and the pivoting shelves make them accessible without taking up much bench space.

Build the Plywood Frame and Pivoting Shelves

The organizer starts with a plywood frame mounted to a wider base for stability.

Inside the frame are three pivoting shelves. Each shelf has four holes sized to hold standard prescription bottles, providing storage for up to 12 containers.

The shelves pivot on dowel pins that pass through the sides of the frame. The dowels are glued into the shelves but left free to rotate in the frame.

Toy wheels mounted on the outside of the frame are part of the pivot assembly.

A handle at the top makes it easy to carry the organizer wherever you need it in the shop.

Reuse Pill Bottles for Small Parts Storage

Instead of throwing away empty prescription bottles, save them for storing leftover hardware.

The bottles are ideal for keeping screws, washers, nuts, and other small fasteners separated.

Before reusing a bottle, remove the prescription label and clean and dry the container.

To access the hardware, simply tilt a shelf outward and lift out the bottle you need.

When you're finished, return the bottle and pivot the shelf back into place.

A Compact Hardware Organizer for Any Shop

This simple storage project is a practical way to make use of scrap plywood and containers you might otherwise discard.

The pivoting shelves keep the bottles organized, while the wide base and carrying handle make the holder easy to move around the shop.

And when you're finished working, the entire organizer can be stored out of the way until the next project.

It's an inexpensive solution that makes finding the right piece of hardware a whole lot easier.
