Router Bit Storage Tray

By: Logan Wittmer
All the router bits you need close at hand but out of the way — this tip is a keeper.

I recently made a router bit storage rack from a solid-wood blank and mounted it to the outside of my router table’s base. However, in my small, cramped shop, I was constantly snagging my pant leg or shop apron on the rack as I walked past. I wanted to keep my storage rack accessible, but out of the way. The solution to my problem came to me on a recent trip to the hardware store. Instead of installing the router bit storage rack to the outside of my router table base, I mounted the rack to a full-extension drawer slide. I then installed the whole assembly underneath my router table as you see here. Now, to access my router bits, it’s as simple as sliding the rack out and selecting the bit I need. And the best thing is, no more snagged pants.

You can layout and drill the holes you need to suit your router bit collection. The bevel on the blank provides easy access to the bits.
